Cleveland Film Czar- pay no attention to the man behind the curtain

Indie Cleveland (IC) got mentioned in the Cleveland Plain dealer thanks to Julie Washington and also I got my picture in the Crain's Cleveland business. And I get together with the IT girl this Sunday to shoot a commercial for Prelude2Cinema (p2c). WOW. Made me feel good. I still have a lot to do. Spent 15 hours getting a movie rendered for CD-ROM, but it turned out to be too big, so I am going with the other version for releasing it on the p2c studio store. it is an older movie and I haven't seen it in a while, so I looked at it and it is wild to see it after all these years. The movie, "The Hot Rain" has been screened as a short and will play this April 1st thanks to Neal Hodges and Reel Deal. Man, a lot going on.

Also got a few calls for the Workshops. Still have to see if the people sign up and become students. IC is growing rather quickly and so is p2c. There's a few events or should I say talks about filmmaking going on around town and the festival starting up. I have to realize sooner or later someone will ask me what I think of all this and I can either support it or add a dose of reality to it. Of course, it is easier to say what you believe. Which is: I think this is the fall out from Hollywood coming here, but now we have to decide if we want to build an industry here. And in order to do this, we have to put our money where our mouth is. Lord knows I am dedicated to making movies here with p2c and I am also supportive of the community with starting IC, but I don't have the kind of cash to support the creation of the industry here. I do have some ideas. I think I need to connect with the right people to do this. Well, I know I do. I have managed to cut some people loose. That is always a painful, but necessary thing. I do outgrow friends and then again some people aren't really friends anyway.

Got an e-mail from RM. She is busy with the show. Which is understandable. I am busy myself, but I should make an effort to get out and see here. Maybe at the end of next week. Got a call about being on TV this coming Tuesday. Oh man, now I really need to shave. Funny, listening to Yahoo! radio and the song "Use Me" just came up. I won't read anything into that. It was on Miles davis, and I clicked forward and I did rate "Use Me" as one of my top 100 songs, so naturally it will come up a lot.

I haven't seen the IT girl in a while. At least we got to do our scenes in the TV show out of the way. I want to finish up the show, but I can't do without capital. This producing is a bitch. Pure and simple! I am goign to finish up everything I got right now and do nothing new until I have some money behind it. Actually the only thing to do for p2c coming up is the TV show.

I do have faith that will find a sponsor. it is only a matter of short time. Of course who knows what condition the world will be in at that point.

I am not even going to go there.

I haven't ignored the War or things. I read it on-line and I am certain I am tracked for doing so. I don't want to type in certain words cause the government is probably looking for people with strong opinions against their point of view. So, it is a sbobering thought to see how much this country has changed from when I was a little kid.

As the "Dixie Chicks" will tell you, you can't speak your mind nowadays. well, you can. If you say the right things.

Anyhow, what will happen, will happen.

RM e-mailed. Which makes me giddy. OK, not giddy, but she does make me smile. I am too cynical to get wrapped up in this kind of thinking. Still, IT is a lot better than fantasizing over other women who are out my reach. Still. I should be focusing on work. Lord knows I have a lot to do, but "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." For an Emmy winning writer, I should be able to come up with something better than that. I put the Emmy winning thing on my new business cards. Which makes people give me a shocked look. As if to say, you have an Emmy, so why are you here. That kind of thinking is what is wrong with the movie community here already. Everyone thinks you have to jet out to the coast.

I lived out there. It is nothing special unless you have the right connections and the right job. Most don't and most starve.

Still, I have to go pick up a press thing to see if I am in it. It will help move things along. There's only two reasons for press. One is to promote things and the other is ego. I does feel nice to get recognition for what you are doing. In this business, it is crucial. The lack of it can be devastating. OK, don't want to get tied up with getting ignored by certain people in the press. There are more out there and I have to focus on that and reaching the right audience. I really believe people will support movies here. If you present it the right way.

Well, got to get some sleep.

I may go downtown to see my consigliere. I saw him last week to go over some things. And I picked up some books on meetings and events. That is going to be a huge thing. We talked about IT and other things. Got to stay focused.

I could really use a break. Maybe around the summer, but I need to get the show up and rolling first. Still, at times, I feel I could sleep for a week. Got a meeting Tuesday. Got to get those meeting rooms and Of course got to see RM.

I have a few people that are supposed to get with me, but they haven't e-mailed me, so I leave that up to them. Sometimes you have to let people get back with you and if they don't, you move on. Going to be doing that a lot as things get busier.

Funny thing is, I told someone that I do a lot of stuff myslef cause people say they want to help, but then later on, they don't. So she said, oh I'll help. I said, OK, then later she blew off a meeting and I haven't heard from her since. Oh, you can always count on people to let you down. Still I think it's better if they just say they don't have time to help instead of saying they do and then not doing it.

Supposed to finish shooting things, but I have been focusing on getting capital right now. That takes all the time, but hopefully soon it will pay off.

Well, if I get the press tomorrow (actually today), then I'll feel a little better. I'll still have a lot to do, but every little bit helps.
